Hate Speech

Just a thought.  Did it ever occur to the people accusing others of “hate speech” that what they are saying is interpreted as hate speech?

I was reading this post at Craig Pirrong’s excellent blog, Streetwise Professor when that thought popped into my head.

We all ought to be re-reading or encountering for the first time JS Mills On Liberty.   Mill says, “All silencing of discussion is an assumption of infallibility.”  We have been seeing a silencing on college campuses across the nation for a number of years, and we witnessed an active silencing by our news media and Big Tech in the last year.

That’s why the first amendment to the Constitution identifies it in the second phrase, “freedom of speech”.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I am alarmed by the memes of Bernie Sanders in his mask and mittens.  He is not a warm fuzzy individual.  He is a communist.  Communists and socialists are evil people when it comes to freedom, individual liberty, and free speech.  Would you feel the same and laugh if you saw a similar photo of Joseph Stalin or Karl Marx or Vladimir Lenin?  There is little difference between them.
