Electric semi trucks are coming, and they could help to decarbonize the shipping and logistics industry. However, range remains a major limitation.

This presents challenges for long-hauling, where the average diesel-powered semi can travel up to 2,000 miles before refueling. Compare this to the longest range electric model, the Tesla Semi, which promises up to 500 miles. A key word here is “promises”—the Semi is still in development, and nothing has been proven yet.

In this infographic, we’ve listed all of the upcoming electric semi trucks, complete with range and charge time estimates. Further in the article, we’ll explore the potential commercial use cases of this first generation of trucks.

Back to School

This post is by Brad Feld from Brad Feld

I got the following email from Barry Schuler this morning. We’ve known each other for many years, and he’s one of my favorite VCs to work with.

He described exactly how I feel this morning. The fall is my favorite season of the year. By labor day, I’m ready for summer to end. The stretch until Thanksgiving is my most productive time of year.

I finally feel like writing again after a summer off (most of my books come out in the late spring / early summer, so I’m fried and uninterested in writing during the summer.)

My running is almost always great in the fall. I end the summer in solid shape and usually ramp up a lot in the fall. I like shorter days, later sunrises, and early sunsets. I like the colors of the leaves. The cool, crisp Colorado mornings.

Amy and I had a good summer, but I’m ready for cooler weather and a different pace.

Our Investment in Willow Servicing

We’re excited to announce our investment in Willow Servicing, a mortgage servicing software platform founded by Laura Cain and Teddy Coleman. Willow Servicing was founded in 2021 with the vision of modernizing the core technology that orchestrates the collection of $18 trillion of U.S. mortgage debt. Willow has built an automated servicing toolset that allows small and large servicers alike to efficiently service their loans in-house. We’re joined by several great investors in this round including Zigg Capital, Global Asset Capital, The Mortgage Collaborative, and Webb Investment Network.

Why Mortgage Servicing and Why Willow?

The mortgage industry has faced several headwinds this year — rising interest rates, limited housing supply, and record-high home prices impacting affordability. After two record-setting years of loan origination volume, the mortgage industry is contracting, sharply. The industry is now struggling with the perfect storm of lower volume, lower revenues, and higher costs per loan, which all impact lender profitability. Non-bank mortgage lenders on average lost $82 per loan in Q2 2022, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Somewhat counterintuitively, we believe this is the best time to be building a mortgage technology business. As margins compress in the current environment, we expect there to be added focus from mortgage originators on finding ways to drive differentiation and operational efficiency. To survive, lenders must do more with less resources, and they will turn to technology partners that enable automation, delight customers and drive down cost — a true win, win, win. We believe Willow does just (Read more...)

Hello New York…I Miss You

This post is by Howard Lindzon from Howard Lindzon

I had a great few days in Toronto seeing my mom and sisters and friends.

I am not sure if Arnold Schwarzenegger is living in Toronto’s Four Seasons or filming a movie but on my last two trips here we have been in the same elevator. Rachel was with me last time . Unbelievably, he did not recognize me.

I am looking forward to a few days in New York running around seeing Rachel, founders and friends.

If you read my blog you know I am fascinated by the media and entertainment business.

Last year Ravi Nandan a partner at A24 reached out to me to say hello because he was a reader of my blog. We have zoomed and tried to get together but are finally having lunch today. I have a ton of questions as a fan. The A24 studio has been prolific and a huge success.

Ravi is an incredible producer of shows that I have watched including the hysterical Ramy and the new show Mo on Netflix which is amazing. He also produced the wildly popular Euphoria.

My blog has opened so many amazing doors for me so I will keep walking through them.

Have a great day.
